The Parkinson's Disease Boxing Program (as part of Christian Boxing Academy) was founded in October of 2018. Led by Danny Ress and a group of volunteers, the program has slowly grown to over 30 participants who come from all areas of southeast Missouri.
The non-contact, goal-oriented boxing program is led by a group of volunteers. The boxing program was designed to target the motor and non-motor constraints of Parkinson's disease. Each exercise was chosen or designed for a specific purpose and is backed by literature.
The program is free but we depend on private donations and grants to keep it running. It costs about $1,000/month to run the building. There is no income associated with the program. Ideally we would like to start paying some of our boxing trainers but we do not have the funds. Saying this, donations are appreciated or if you can pay a monthly fee that would great.
We run this program as part of our mission to Christ and our ability to make the community better.
The Parkinson's Boxing Program is a part of Christian Boxing Academy. Led by Danny Rees, the Parkinson's Boxing Program started in October 2018. The program started with 1 participants and grew to 30+ participants. Danny and a group of volunteers run 6 classes a week (MWF - 8 AM and 9 AM). The goal of the class is to improve a Parkinson's disease participants symptoms (motor and non-motor symptoms).
The program is completely free to participants and relies solely on private donations and grants. Money is used to buy equipment, water, pay trainers, and maintain the facility. So far, we have raised $10,000 from grants including the American Academy of Neurology, RuralPREP, and United Way.
